If you made a New Year's resolution to lose weight and you're looking for a new diet plan to get you motivated, the U.S. News and World Report has released a list of the best overall diets.

At the top was the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) developed by the National Institutes of Health.

The panel weighing the different diets looked for plans that were easy to follow, nutritious and safe. But the diets also needed to help you lose weight and fight diabetes and heart disease.
