SAN DIEGO -
More than 100 San Diego hotels, restaurants and attractions will take part in a "Kids Free San Diego" promotion during the month of October, the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Wednesday.
"For more than 25 years, our partners at the San Diego Zoo had a very popular and successful Kids Free Month every October, and we basically exploded their program and made it into a destination-wide offering," said Joe Terzi, ConVis president and CEO.
According to the agency, the idea is to get families to extend the summer traveling season into October, when tourism traditionally falls off.
"Now, during Kids Free San Diego, we're providing families more than 100 great reasons to visit our region in October, and we're expecting this program to stimulate travel and the raise the awareness of San Diego as an affordable family destination," Terzi said.
ConVis is supporting the program with a $1.74 million multimedia advertising campaign in Los Angeles and Phoenix.
Deals include free admission to the Birch Aquarium, Legoland, SeaWorld San Diego and various museums; free meals at restaurants and hotel dining rooms.
Most of the discounts are limited to youth ages 12 and under, but the deals and restrictions vary.
