Two new studies suggest latex gloves may not be the healthy direction to take when it comes to handling food.
In a study just published in the "Journal of Food Protection," researchers found that gloves actually created a number of food contamination risks, rather than protect against them.
They found the warm, moist environment inside the glove could attract bacteria, and that bacteria could be spread through tiny holes or tears in the glove.
A second study conducted by the Guthri Research Institute found that the latex gloves shed latex proteins into the food, causing a potential allergic reaction to anyone who may be allergic to latex.
Both studies found that regular had washing with hot water and soap to be the safer alternative.
