SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Comic-Con may dominate event headlines in San Diego throughout the weekend, but that doesn't mean there are even more fun opportunities around the county.

This weekend, Pirate Con will pull into port at the San Diego Maritime Museum and musical artists such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Third Eye Blind will rock San Diego stages.

There are also Del Mar races to be seen, as the racetrack opens for another fun-filled and entertaining season.

Here are some fun options happening around the county this weekend:

Pirate Con at the San Diego Maritime Museum - Friday

If superheroes aren't your thing, maybe scores of pirates will strike an interest. The San Diego Maritime Museum is holding Pirate Con (a 21 and over event) on the Star of India in the midst of downtown's "other convention" madness. Pirate attendees can expect costume contests and prizes, games, live music, photo booth pictures, dancing and a general pirate pAARRGHty atmosphere. More information.

Third Eye Blind with Silversun Pickups at Cal Coast Open Air Theatre - Friday

Rockers Third Eye Blind are continuing their Summer Gods Tour with fellow rock bands Silversun Pickups and Ocean Park Standoff at San Diego State University's Cal Coast Open Air Theatre. More information.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live at Balboa Theater - Friday and Saturday

For the first time ever, MST3000 creator Joel Hodgson is bringing the show on the road, with its new host Jonah Ray. The show's robot companions will also be on hand, including actors Hampton Yount, Rebecca Hanson, Felicia Day, and Patton Oswalt. More information.

Horseraces at Del Mar Racetrack - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Del Mar Racetrack opens for a new season of racing this week. Races will continue throughout the weekend, including a Friday performance by Tribal Seeds. More information.

Heroes Brew Festival at Waterfront Park - Saturday

Enjoy two hours of unlimited beer tastings amongst a crowd of superhero-clad brew fans at Waterfront Park. The event will feature virtual reality activities, art exhibits, and a live music, including a DJ set by actor Kristian Nairn, better known by some as "Hodor" from HBO's Game of Thrones. More information.

Insect and Ladybug Festival at San Diego Botanical Garden - Saturday and Sunday

Thousands of creepy crawlies, including live insects, lizards, snakes, and the famous "Madagascar hissing cockroaches," will be housed at the San Diego Botanical Garden for hands-on activities, bug collecting, and arts and crafts. Entomologists and other bug experts will also be available for education and entertainment. More information.

Obon Festival at Vista Buddhist Temple - Saturday and Sunday

The Obon Festival is free to the public and offers two days of food, dancing, cultural performances, talks about Buddhism, a farmer's market, and games for families. More information.

Family Fun Festival at Flowerhill Promenade in Del Mar - Sunday

Local musicians and performers will be on hand for the Family Fun Festival, including free pony rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, and more throughout the Flowerhill Promenade. More information.

X3 Paddle Race series at Bonita Cove - Sunday

The X3 SUP and prone paddle races is a three-part racing event, featuring men’s, women’s and junior’s division races, "big board" battles, and more. Spectators can enjoy a 1.5K Tech Course, a Kids Fun Run, and inflatable board battle. More information.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill at Valley View Casino Center - Sunday

Music icons Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are bringing their Soul 2 Soul The World Tour 2017 to  San Diego's Valley View Casino this weekend. More information.
