INDIANAPOLIS - It's flu season, and many people are looking for alternative ways to avoid catching the bug that brings coughs, runny noses and headaches.
Managers at the alternative health store Good Earth in Broad Ripple say many customers are considering natural remedies, vitamins and herbs to fight the flu and boost their immune system.
"Vitamin C is a cornerstone. Whether you are taking it in a formula or by itself, we know that it has great anti-oxidant properties and it is a big immune booster," manager Rudy Nehrling said.
Another alternative remedy includes natural berry syrups for coughs and sore throats.
"They use active elderberry because it has some clinical support for its use," manager Bob Bennington said.
Health experts said the best way to stay healthy during flu season is by simply staying hydrated, getting plenty of rest and washing your hands.
