10News Leadership Award Winner Rose Waring
10News honors Rose Waring, co-founder of Altrusa’s San Diego North County Coastal Club, a non-profit organization, dedicated to improving economic well-being and quality of life through a commitment to community services and literacy.Waring has been a member of the Altrusa International Foundation for almost 25 years. She began as a member with the local chapter while living in Las Vegas. When her job transferred her to San Francisco, she was disappointed to learn there were no Altrusa clubs. Rose flew back to Las Vegas for every meeting so she could continue to work with the organization. After moving to San Diego, she joined the Escondido chapter. Rose established the North County Coastal Club two years ago after seeing the need for a chapter in her area.Altrusa's North County Coastal Club buys and collects school supplies for their two adopted classes at Oceanside elementary schools. They write letters to service men and women overseas and support the Women’s Resource Center of North County by donating clothing, furniture, and other items needed. Each Altrusa club also works on an outreach program outside their area. North County Coastal Club does their part by supplying books to a small library in Appalachia, Tennessee.
Rose and her members also support Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides new, handmade blankets to children in need. They deliver between 50 and 75 blankets each month, answering requests from hospitals, shelters, police stations, and other community groups.Today, Rose and Altrusa's North County Coastal Club are working hard to better the lives of others. Rose spends countless hours donating her time and blankets.
