Juliette Vara

Like Forest Gump said, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." The feeling is mutual if you ask Juliette Vara. As a reporter she uncovers a different story every day.

Juliette says she's honored to be a journalist. "Knowing people trust me to share their story is a privilege and incredibly rewarding."

Before joining 10 News in July of 2006, she worked at the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio as a reporter. She also helped out as fill-in anchor. During the 2004 Bush/Kerry presidential election, all eyes were on the Buckeye state. Juliette was there covering the story. Perhaps, what she'll remember most is covering the cicada invasion! These extremely loud, harmless insects grow underground and come out once every 17 years for a brief period. "Cincinnati was literally under attack! For six weeks, you'd see people running around carrying fly swatters and wearing huge hats with netting to protect their face. The stories we covered were hilarious."

Juliette's career officially began March 1, 2002 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. That's the day she did her first live shot for KHBS. While in Arkansas, she got her first taste of severe weather, covering tornadoes and hail storms.

Even though Juliette spent her college years in Boston, she says never got used to the cold, snowy weather. Originally from a small beach town in Southeast Florida, she's thrilled to call a warm, coastal city home again. "I came to San Diego in March of 2006 for vacation and fell in love with the city. Two weeks later a job opened up at 10News and I got it. I believe in fate!"

When she's off the clock, she says she enjoys exploring San Diego. She enjoys going to concerts, horseback riding, scuba diving, traveling, theater and sampling San Diego's diverse restaurants.

Juliette says she looks forward to earning your trust. She welcomes your story ideas, comments and questions at Juliette_Vara@10News.com.
