POWAY, Calif. -- The Poway Unified School District said Tuesday they will begin holding swine flu vaccination clinics this weekend, 10News reported.Students at Oak Valley Middle School have had their share of illnesses this year. Hundreds of kids called in sick in early October following a school camping trip, with at least three confirmed cases of swine flu. Parents like Aramy King are anxious to get their children vaccinated."Our doctor doesn't have it. I tried going to the clinic, but the line is like two-miles long, so it's just been really tough to get the vaccination," said King.
The clinics will be held at Oak Valley Middle School, Valley Elementary, Sunset Hills Elementary and Bernardo Heights Middle School on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.The vaccines, in injection form and nasal spray, will be available to students, their siblings and teachers or parents who are pregnant."Once I got that letter I was stoked; this was the only opportunity I had," said King.Last month, the San Diego County Health Department received 20,000 doses for schools, with 4,200 set aside for Poway Unified. However, the district has 33,000 students."I'm not even sure why they did this right now, really, when there's a lot of kids already lately getting sick," said parent Mags Evangelista.Last week, the county ran out of the injection form of the vaccine, and health officials said after this weekend the county's entire stock will be gone. They said they do not know when the next shipment will arrive.Parents of Oak Valley students said they will line up early at the clinics this weekend.
