SAN DIEGO -- A local man who survived a 400-foot fall off a Point Loma cliff thanked the people who helped save his life Thursday, 10News reported."He just did everything in the world," said John Little of his longtime friend, Harold Reed.Little, 77, and the 91-year-old Reed were in Reed's truck when the vehicle careened down a steep incline at the Cabrillo National Monument on Oct. 13.
"Lord, forgive me for my sins. He says that, I was gonna walk into heaven and I expected to," said Little. After being hospitalized for 10 days, Reed succumbed to his injuries. On Thursday, Little met with the firefighters who helped save his life that day. He said he still struggles to find the right words to say thanks."My message to them … there's no words to praise these people. People say the fire department doesn't have that hard of a job … they have a rough job. They have it hard," said Little.Reed's widow, Betty, brought pie and ice cream to Thursday's gathering at Montgomery Field. She also brought a photo her husband took of Copter 2, not knowing it would someday be used to come to his aid."It's just wonderful all the people who are here and to see all the people who helped," said Betty Reed. The pilot of Copter 2 and the firefighters said meeting Reed's wife and seeing Little again was special and provided some closure.
