SAN DIEGO -- Two local neighborhoods are on edge after a group of robbers pulled a shotgun on their victims and robbed them of their belongings, 10News reported.

Three separate muggings occurred within minutes of each other, according to police. Two of the armed robberies happened in North Park, and the third happened in Kensington. All happened about 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Neighbors said it is an unlikely neighborhood for such a brazen attack.

"In Kensington, you don't really expect that kind of thing to happen," said resident Liam Lawlor.

According to police, the victims in the Kensington robberies had their wallets and cell phones taken. Police also said they believe the robbers were responsible for the two North Park incidents.

"It sounded like at least half a dozen of them, kinda flying around the neighborhood when I heard the helicopter overhead, so I could tell something was up," said Lawlor.

The first reported robbery happened on Landis Street, with the second incident on Redwood Street 15 minutes later -- both in the North Park area.

Twenty minutes later, a robbery was reported on Kensington Avenue.

The victims in Kensington said they were just walking down the street when they were robbed of their wallets and their cell phones. They had to go inside the Ken Theater so they could call police.

Police said in all of the cases three men pulled up in a car, got out of the vehicle and demanded the victims' wallets and cell phones. One of the men was armed with a shotgun, police added.

While police continue to look for the car and the robbery suspects, residents said they will keep a watchful eye as well.

"I'll tell ya, I always have the doors locked. I mean, it's a great little neighborhood but you never know," said resident Robert Hertzfeldt.
