SAN DIEGO -- A new proposal by the Centre City Development Corporation to add more public parking spaces in downtown San Diego is on the table, 10News reported.According to city officials, there are currently more than 62,000 parking spots available in the downtown area -- that includes public and private lots and parking garages. The CCDC hopes the San Diego City Council will find that no further environmental reviews are needed as environmental documents have already been certified.
There is also some discussion of having variable parking meter rates and extending the hours one can park in metered spots, 10News reported.10News spoke with several frequent and infrequent downtown visitors, and a majority of them agreed that having additional parking spots is an idea that they would support.Meanwhile, similar plans are being considered to add parking spots in the Uptown and Mid-City areas.
