Robert Santos
After nearly two years in the Pacific Northwest, Robert wanted more sunshine and warmth. So, in June 2009, he moved to Southern California to join the 10News Team, both as a weathercaster and reporter. But, he’s no stranger to San Diego. For six years, Robert worked at three different stations in town, including 10News.While in San Diego, Robert reported live on many big stories including several Southern California wildfires, President Bush’s historic “Mission Accomplished” speech on board the USS Abraham Lincoln, the disappearance of little Danielle Van Dam, the Westerfield Trial and the Santana High School shooting. From the serious to the light-hearted, Robert has covered quite a range of stories. The Associated Press Television Radio Association recognized his skills by naming him Reporter of the Year among his colleagues in California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Washington, New Mexico and Idaho. He’s also been a reporter in Oxnard-Ventura (KADY), Salinas-Monterey (KCBA & KION) and Los Angeles (KTLA).
After reporting for many years, Robert wanted a new challenge – forecasting the weather. Soon after completing his contract with KFMB, KSWB, down the street, offered him his first job as a weathercaster. He was hooked! Since then, he’s also forecasted in Las Vegas (KVBC) and most recently Seattle (KOMO).Robert’s fascination for weather began as a child growing up on Guam. Typhoons intrigued him rather than scared him. His interest in the television news business began in his middle school years and was sparked while watching news programs from Los Angeles and the Phil Donahue Show, which aired on Guam’s cable station. From then, Robert sought out opportunities to be in front of the camera, first as a host for "Kids' Eye on Guam," then later in high school, as host of "Academic Challenge Bowl" which aired on the local PBS. Upon graduating at age 17, Robert’s career in Journalism began. He started as a producer for Guam Cable News and soon after was reporting and anchoring for both TV and radio.Robert’s come a long way since leaving Guam to pursue his Bachelor’s degree at Pepperdine University. He’s happy to be back in Southern California -- closer to the beach, sunshine, great food, relatives and friends.
