SAN DIEGO -- A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of stabbing an employee of a swingers' club in downtown San Diego during a nude sex party. The assault occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday while the victim was trying to calm down a man who was having a dispute with another patron at Thad's, 3517 E St., according to police. When officers arrived at the club -- which requires male customers to completely shed their clothes while inside but allows women the choice of being naked or wearing lingerie -- both the victim and assailant were gone. Later in the night, however, the victim turned up at Alvarado Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening wounds.
About 5:30 a.m, the suspect returned to the club and barricaded himself in a bathroom, possibly with a gun he had taken from a safe, police said. The man, whose name was not immediately available, was arrested about a half-hour later after he jumped out of a second-story window onto a patio awning and ran.According to the club's Web site, the operators of Thad's "believe in the respectability of nudism and all physical relationships and the right to gather in private and practice these goals."The business asks its customers to bring their own drinks and condoms.
