SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- A violent barroom brawl may have finally silenced a North County bar popular for its live bands. The Jumping Turtle Bar & Grill in San Marcos will no longer be allowed to host live bands after the city of San Marcos revoked the bar's entertainment permit following the stabbing of two people in an early Saturday morning melee. Two women were arrested after the altercation."And this is not the first time this has happened at this particular establishment," city spokeswoman Jenny Peterson told 10News. "So we felt for the public's safety, it was important we take immediate action."
Sheriff's officials said they've been called to the bar more than 120 times in the last two years. The most recent altercation began in the bar during a performance by rapper Skee-Lo, famous for his hit song "I Wish." Witnesses and authorities said the fight eventually made its way out to the bar's parking lot.Jumping Turtle owner Matt Hall declined an on-camera interview because of a pending lawsuit against the city of San Marcos. He told 10News by phone that he is suing the city because it is harassing him and depriving him of his rights. However, Hall did say he takes all scuffles seriously and intends to fight to get his permit back.In the meantime, live performances have been cancelled, including this Saturday's performance by the Mike Pinto Band.Mike Pinto told 10News, "The consequences are now we don't get to play music, which is supposed to get people away from the stress of life."
