SAN YSIDRO, Calif. -- A school in the South Bay is dealing with a big problem. Beyer Elementary in San Ysidro has hired four principals within a year and that has parents angry.School gets out for the summer in one week and not a moment too soon. You see, this year alone Beyer has had four different school principals.Anthony Rodriguez has two children at Beyer and he's getting annoyed at what seems to be constant turnover in the office.
"Two, three, four months go by again, 'oh, were going to change principals,'" Rodriguez said.Rodriguez and dozens of other parents said their children's education is suffering because every time they begin to get used to one principal, they're gone."And we go back. We just keep rolling back, rolling back instead of going forward," Rodriguez said.Much of their anger is directed at San Ysidro School Superintendent Manual Paul. This is Paul's first year on the job -- a job chock-full of problems. Besides budget cuts, five of the district's schools -- including Beyer -- are on the "program improvement" list because test scores haven't been up to snuff."There is no more time to waste," Paul said. "We need to move these schools out of 'program improvement' and that's our focus."He said he shuffled principals in and out of a couple schools to maximize their strengths and to get tests scores up.Rodriguez isn't convinced, especially now that Beyer's current principal may be replaced before the start of the next school year."She has a very good track record as far as we know, as far as we have seen on the results of our children," Rodriguez said.None of the former or current principals were available to comment Friday. A school board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night. Dozens of Beyer parents are expected to attend.
