SAN DIEGO -- The subject of an I-Team report is now in jail, accused of fraud. Simon Gann is a familiar face to many scorned women who said he pretended to love them, but only for their money. Gann has been arrested in association with a scheme that preyed on good will. The I-Team started tracking twin brothers Simon and Jordan Gann in 2007 when Simon Gann was believed to be in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. The men used their good looks and charm to win over women."This is what he does," said New Yorker Meredith Gavin, who told the I-Team in 2007 how well she knows the brothers, especially 28-year-old Simon. She said Simon Gann scammed her for $4,000 six years ago. "He does not have a job, doesn't have a legal address; this is what he does for a living."
Simon Gann has been accused of scamming again. He was arrested recently in Toronto, Canada, on four counts of fraud under $5,000. At the time of his arrest, Gann was going by the name Giancarlo Dinatale. Toronto Police said he claimed to be a wealthy mathematician, symphony writer and business investor.Gann was accused of pretending to lose his wallet and luggage, and then asking Good Samaritans to give him money. He promised to pay them back, but never did. Gann is also accused of pretending to have seizures just so he could get money to pay fake medical bills."I think the more people who come forward, the less embarrassing it is," said Gavin, who runs a Web site warning others about the Gann brothers. She said she was conned by Simon Gann, but it could have been his identical twin, Jordan. She said she isn't sure which brother swindled her, impregnated her and left her to raise their son on her own.The I-Team reported that Jordan Gann is now serving a five-year prison sentence for fraud at a work camp in Florida. Jordan has posed as his brother in the past, and at his court case, he refused to tell the judge his true identity. After the I-Team's first stories on Simon Gann, tips came in saying Gann had gone into Mexico, stopping at tourist locations like Puerto Vallarta.Toronto Police said Gann traveled to Niagara Falls and Ottawa, and their investigation is ongoing.Victims can contact Detective Robert Speakman at 416-808-1100 or online at www.222tips.com.
