SAN DIEGO -- A once-confident con artist looked shaken as he entered a San Diego courtroom Wednesday.Raymond "R.C." Anderson pleaded not guilty and wanted the judge to make it easier for him to get out of jail."Mr. Anderson is asking for a bail reduction," Anderson's attorney said.
However, Deputy District Attorney Fiona Khalil said Anderson had ripped people off "in an effort to entice them into supporting the development of 2 different products.""The defendant took close to $700,000 from different victims. The defendant never followed through on promises he made," she added.Anderson has numerous victims in California and Nevada. In some cases, victims had invested their life savings. One victim told the 10News I-Team, "The next thing I knew, I was writing one check after another."Another victim said, "It was always in $25,000 increments."Anderson scammed Kathy Nielsen out of thousands."I think it is safer, people are safer with him in jail," Nielsen. And what happened to the money Nielsen and others invested? Khalil said Anderson used it on lifestyle expenses and also stole someone's identity to obtain more money."Our analysis of a bank account… he removed over $100,000 in cash," said Khalil.Bail for Anderson stands at $2 million, and he is scheduled back in court next week to try and get that amount reduced.
