Boy, 10, Dies When Dad Preps Yard For Ike

Father Trying To Remove Dead Tree

POSTED: 4:29 pm PDT September 12, 2008

A 10-year-old boy died when his father was preparing their yard for Hurricane Ike, Houston television station KPRC reported.

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said the boy's father was trying to remove a dead tree in their front yard. When the tree fell, the boy did not get out of its way, officials said.

The boy's older brother tried to pull him away, but the tree hit him in the head.

The boy was taken to Tomball Regional Hospital, where he died.

Detectives said the boy's death appeared to be an accident and no charges were expected.
