The Wofford family arrived at their new home, located at 1785 Caliban Drive in Village Park, at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Neighbors and friends of Brian Wofford, a widower and the father of eight, are excited for the family. A team from ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" surprised the Encinitas resident nearly two weeks ago when they showed up on his doorstep and offered to remodel his home.

Joel Baker, Wofford's neighbor, said, "(Wednesday), when (the Wofford family) took off in the big Hummer, it was like, 'Whoa, this isn't happening.' They are not here today, so it is finally sinking in that they are actually going to (demolish) the house."

Wofford's family and friends knew he could use the help. Four years ago, Wofford's wife, Teresa, died from complications of the flu.

"This family just really deserves it after the tragic loss of their mother. If anyone deserves it, it really is this family," said Tyler Burke, a family friend.

In a letter to the show, Wofford wrote, "With tears in my eyes, I ask for your help for my children. They should have it better."

"He takes care of eight kids. He manages his own business. He tries to manage the house. He's just falling short, so we are here to help him," said Diane Korman, the show's producer.

Janie Clave, another family friend, said, "If there was one person or one family in this area that deserves this, it's without a doubt them. They're an amazing family -- from bottom to top -- they strike this whole community and everybody is blessed to be a part of their life."

Over the past five days, more than 100 contractors transformed Wofford's three-bedroom, two-bathroom Encinitas house into a dream home.

The show will air sometime in September.
