The U.S. Navy confirmed Dorner checked in to the Gateway Inn & Suites on Tuesday, and was supposed to check out on Wednesday morning, but he did not.

"Apparently, Mr. Dorner checked into the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites on February 5th, he was supposed to check out on the 6th. He did not physically check out," said Cmdr. Brad Fagan, Navy Region SW public information officer.

A Navy official said someone saw a person matching Dorner's general description on the base at 9:35 a.m. Thursday. By 9:40 a.m., the base went on lockdown. Before 11:00 a.m., it was determined Dorner was not on the base.

The official did give any details about the room where Dorner stayed.

Resident Jessica Ramos told 10News, "The fact that I live right across the street at military housing, it frightens me. Usually I leave my front door unlocked, but this morning I locked it."
