Therapy Targets, Melts Fat

Procedure Requires Several Shots

Carrie Wilson, 32, is married and a mother of three. Her target area: thighs. Betsy Ballin, 41, is single and wants to lose weight. Her target area: abs.

Both women turned to Dr. Richard Bligh and lipotherapy to help them out.

"Carrie's area of concern is some cellulite in the back of her thighs," Bligh said.

Bligh attacks cellulite with phosphatidylcholine, which dissolves fats.

The broken-down cellulite is dispersed into cells and then leaves the body. The procedure requires Bligh to insert the phosphatidycholine with a needle several times.

"Some (pricks) you can't even feel, then it's like, oh!," Wilson said.

Bligh stresses lipotherapy is not a weight loss solution.

"If they're not watching their diet, if they're not exercising, it will all come right back," he said.

That is something Wilson and Ballin do not want to happen and both are pleased with the results.

"I noticed inches lost," Wilson said.

It takes about two to three days for swelling to go down and other side effects include bruising and redness.

Lipotherapy costs about $400 to $500 for each treatment area. It takes about seven to 10 treatments to make a noticeable difference.
