Ancient Method Removes Facial Hair Painlessly

Threading Painless Alternative To Waxing

An ancient method of removing facial and body hair is catching on in San Diego, 10News reported.

The procedure uses no tweezers, waxes or creams, just a spool of thread.

In less than two minutes, unwanted facial hair can disappear without pain.

"It takes a long, long time to practice the art of the threading," said Dolly Bakshai, salon owner and threader.

Threading involves pulling out rows of hair from the follicle by twisting the hairs into a cotton thread.

The procedure can remove the tiniest and finest hair, Bakshai told 10News.

Threading only pulls the facial hair, unlike waxing, which pulls the skin.

Over time, waxing can cause the skin to loosen and develop premature wrinkles.

"I am pulling quite a few hairs at the same time -- not one at a time," Bakshai explained as she worked on a client.

Bakshai has been threading for more than 40 years.

"It's all about coordination," she said.

Most of her clients, like Yasmine Kajee, want their eyebrows reshaped without plucking.

Since the hair is pulled out from the root, hairs grow back finer and more sparse. Plus, threading is fast and painless.

"There was no pain at all -- just a slight tugging," Kajee said.

10News Staying Healthy Reporter Carol LeBeau wanted to compare plucking to threading. So, she asked Bakshai to reshape her eyebrows.

"Oh my gosh, that's nothing. Tweezing hurts much more," LeBeau said after getting her eyebrows threaded.

But unlike tweezing, you can't do this at home.

Threading for eyebrows costs $10. Hair removal for the entire face is about $30.

Threading can remove hair anywhere on the body.

A local salon called Beauty By Dolly specializes in threading and another ancient hair removal method called sugaring.
