SAN DIEGO -- Welcome to the world of luxury deodorants, a fast-selling assortment of sprays and sticks for men and women, ranging from $13 to $30.Others aren't so Sure, banning the Ban, calling the Right Guard, wrong -- all in the name of a new scent. At Neiman Marcus, the $20 Darphan stick is a big seller. Why the big stink? It's made with fewer chemicals, like aluminum and alcohol, and more fragrance and plant extracts."You're getting all the properties of a fine luxury item. You're getting extra conditioning and it's not going to hurt or bother your skin," Neiman Marcus employee Stephanie Trigg said. But are high-end deodorants really worth the higher prices?10News volunteer Alexis compared Darphan deodorant to a $4 stick of Secret deodorant.Alexis applied the Secret on one armpit, the Darphan on the other. She went for a run and worked up a good sweat.Alexis then took a whiff of her armpits and said, "Actually, both smell good. The Darphan side feels good. The Secret side is itching."The Darphan may have done well during the 10News experiment, but some said they have yet to sniff a reason to shell out the extra bucks."I don't care if it did smell nice, if it don't come with a gold bar in the box, I don't want it," a shopper told 10News."I'll pay $30 for a meal, not a deodorant," another shopper said.
