Boes Find Out If They're Pregnant

Couple Has Tried For More Than 15 Years To Conceive

Stephanie and Austin Boes are in their mid-30s and have been trying to start a family for more than a decade, but it hasn't happened.

Now, they are trying one last time.

They have invited 10News along to see firsthand their journey to fertility.

"I'm just ready -- just ready for this day. We delayed it a month. I am ready," said Stephanie.

The high school sweethearts have been trying to have a baby for more than 15 years.

"This really is our last best chance here and we want to make the most of this," said Boes.

After a three-year break for fertility treatments, the couple is trying one last time.

"I don't think that there is any area that hasn't been punctured by some type of needle," said Stephanie.

Six weeks ago, fertility specialist Dr. Samuel Wood retrieved eggs from Stephanie's uterus, fertilized them in the lab and put them into a deep freeze until now.

"When they were first thawed, they did not look as good as we would have liked," said Wood.

The news isn't as good as they had hoped for.

Wood told them they had a 40 or 50 percent chance of it working.

To improve their chances, the Boes must decide if all four embryos should be implanted.

"I think it would be reasonable to put in three or four," said Austin.

During the next 20 minutes, Wood carefully implanted each of the four embryos.

"It looks like the embryos got into exactly the right spot," said Wood. "We got our fingers crossed for you and hopefully we'll have good news in 12 days," Wood told the Boes.

Twelve days later, Stephanie returns for a blood test, but she already knew something.

She confessed she took a pregnancy test the day before.

"I took a test yesterday, and it came out negative," said Stephanie.

Stephanie is already giving up.

"I am just done with the medication. I am just done with the injections. I am just at the end. It's just game over," said Stephanie.

A few hours later, Wood confirmed Stephanie is not pregnant. It's a devastating blow.

But even with emotions still raw, these high school sweethearts keep each other motivated.

"Until you give up, you haven't failed, and I do believe they can succeed if they keep trying," said Wood.

And that's exactly what Stephanie and Austin plan to do.

The Boes said they have faith they will be able to have a baby.

And although at the beginning of this process they said it was their last time to try, they have had a change of heart.
