Edoardo Molinari Wins Dunlop Phoenix Playoff

POSTED: 3:59 am PST November 22, 2009

(Sports Network) - Edoardo Molinari birdied the second playoff hole Sunday to defeat Robert Karlsson and win the Dunlop Phoenix.

Molinari closed with a five-under 66 to match Karlsson at 13-under-par 271. Karlsson posted a six-under 65 in the final round.

The 28-year-old Italian rolled in a three-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole to claim the win after Karlsson missed a birdie chance from 12 feet out.

"I think I played very well today. It was a hard round until the end and I was lucky to come out on top," said Molinari, who topped the European Challenge Tour's money list in 2009.

Karlsson, who trailed by one entering the round, led by a shot at the turn thanks to four birdies on the front nine at Phoenix Country Club.

However, Molinari poured in three birdies in a five-hole stretch from the 11th to join Karlsson in the lead. After Karlsson's birdie putt stopped on the lip at 17, both players missed birdie chances at the last to force the extra session.

Shane Lowry and Hirofumi Miyase both shot 67 Sunday to share third place at seven-under-par 277. Eddie Lee and Tadahiro Takayama were one back at minus- six, while Shigeki Maruyama (68) was one of six players tied for seventh at five-under-par 279.
