New Homes Begin To Replace Charred Communities

Scripps Ranch, Crest Families Excited About New Homes

POSTED: 5:15 pm PST March 4, 2004

More than 3,0000 homes burned in San Diego County during the October fires, 10News reported.

Construction crews put the finishing touches Thursday on a Scripps Ranch home -- the first to be rebuilt since the fires.

The Karvounis family was able to breeze through the permit process. They had the foundation laid in December, and they stuck to the original plan for the house.

They plan to move furniture into their new home in about one week -- just in time for their anniversary.

In the meantime, another family in Crest is about to enjoy their new home.

The two-story modular home will only take a few days to assemble. The family said they are ecstatic about moving in after enduring such hardship.

The family bought the home from Dennis Williams Homes based in Hemet.

Unfortunately for the family, they were under-insured for what they lost in the fire.
