Environmental Group Wants Government To Get Involved

SAN DIEGO -- The Environment California Research and Policy Center released a new report Wednesday documenting toxic chemicals in popular baby items, 10News reported."We actually collected a sample of commonly used baby products including bath toys, teethers and sleep accessories and then we tested for these two kinds of chemicals, which has been linked to reporductive disorders, certain types of cancer and even early onset of puberty," said Moria Chapin of the Environment California Research and Policy Center.The research showed out of 18 baby toys tested, 15 tested positive for a chemical called, phthalates, used to make plastics, pliable.
The study also found that out of seven sleep aids, three tested positive for toxic flame retardants.The group is asking Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to get involved.The manufacturers of some of the products did not return a call from 10News reporter Elizabeth Sanchez.
