Miley Cyrus 'Wrecking Ball' video leaves little to imagination

Pop star ups ante in latest video

If you thought the Miley Cyrus "twerking" episode at the MTV Video Music Awards was shocking, she may have one-upped herself with her latest video.

Little is left to the imagination in Cyrus' just released video for "Wrecking Ball."

In the video, Cyrus is in the buff as she sits on a swinging wrecking ball. It's the latest reminder that when it comes to music videos, sex sells.

Sales were up dramatically after Cyrus' twerking romp at the VMAs, and she's continuing to push the envelope of raciness.

Cyrus' on-stage twerk partner at the VMAs, Robin Thicke, had the inescapable hit of the summer with "Blurred Lines." There were two versions of that video -- one made for TV and another with lots of straight-up nudity.

While sex has long been a big part of music videos, it's harder for songs to get attention these days without being outrageous.

MTV long abandoned the music video format years ago, and the primary distribution method is now online, with services like YouTube and Vevo serving up millions of streams.

The goal of music executives and the artists themselves is to get people talking about their music, and the visuals are as important as ever in that equation.
