Drake leads with 12 BET Awards nominations

LOS ANGELES - Hip-hop artist Drake earned a leading 12 nominations Tuesday for the 2013 BET Awards, while fellow hip hop act Kendrick Lamar and rapper 2 Chainz earned eight each.

Drake was nominated five times in the video of the year category, which also features big names such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Lamar, Rihanna, 2 Chainz and Miguel.

The nominations were announced in downtown Los Angeles by BET executives, show host Chris Tucker, Lamar and R&B singer Chris Brown. Brown and R. Kelly are among those expected to perform during the awards ceremony, which will be held June 30 at the Nokia Theatre.
