SAN DIEGO - A 25-year-old Chula Vista woman has been named Playboy Magazine's 2013 Playmate of the Year.
Raquel Pomplun is Playboy's 54th Playmate of the Year and the first Mexican-American to be given the honor.
In front of posters a little too spicy for mainstream media, Pomplun was brought to tears as the big announcement was made by Playboy's Hugh Hefner Thursday afternoon, during an exclusive cocktail luncheon on the garden grounds of the Playboy Mansion.
"I can't begin to describe how excited I am to receive this honor and be given the opportunity to represent Playboy as its first Mexican-American Playmate of the Year," Pomplun said in a press release. "Playboy has taught me a side of myself I didn't know before. It's been a year of wonderful surprises!"
Pomplun will be featured on the cover of Playboy's June issue, which will hit stores May 17.
Pomplun studied biochemistry at Southwestern College, and is classically trained in ballet.
Playboy Vice President of Public Relations, Theresa Hennessey describes her as the full package, who is proud of her hometown roots.
“She's very proud of Chula Vista and she's always talks about it -she always talks about being a hometown girl at heart and she's so proud to represent her hometown community,” said Hennessey.
Along with her Playmate Of The Year title, Pomplun also received a one year lease on a 2014 F-TYPE Jaguar and $100,000 in prize money.
