Rookie deputy delivers baby for couple stuck behind fallen tree

Baby delivered in back seat of truck

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas - A rookie East Texas sheriff's deputy has a badge, a gun -- and now a baby named after her.

Angelina County Deputy Amanda Lee responded to a 911 call, after Tasha and Cody Rogers' trip to the hospital was blocked by a tree across the road.

"I was there for about one or two minutes, and on the opposite side of this tree, I saw a vehicle pull up and saw some headlights, and a male exited and started waving his arms," Lee told KTRE-TV .

The couple didn't make it in time. Lee delivered a healthy 6-pound baby girl in the back seat of the couple's truck.

"I was freaking out pretty bad. We had to use my shirt to wipe off the baby," Cody Rogers told KTRE.

The Rogers have decided to name their baby Chloe Amanda.

A spokeswoman for Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin says mom and baby are doing just fine.

The Rogers also have a year-old daughter. Lee has two children of her own delivered by cesarean section.
