FT. MYERS, Fla. - Two bald eagles in Florida, Ozzie and Harriet, are expecting two chicks with a Christmas Day due date. The nest is being streamed live on the web 24 hours a day.
(See video player below)
Viewers watched earlier this year as the two eagles nurtured and raised two other chicks named Hope and Honor.
The nest is located high up in a slash pine tree in Fort Myers. The birds do not see or hear anything coming from the camera.
The veteran eagle parents take turns incubating the two eggs laid by Harriet by maintaining a 105-degree temperature.
That is the temperature the embryos need for proper development. Harriet and Ozzie will continue to nurture their eggs until a few days before Christmas when the eggs are expected to hatch.
The eggs were laid on Nov. 17 and Nov. 20. The two eagles have been residing in their nest between October and April for more than 20 years. The eagles mate for life.
