Colorado College defends use of 'queer' as gender option on employment application

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado College is defending an answer option on its job applications that is considered by some people to be a slur.

An optional question asks for the applicants gender and lists five choices, including male, female, transgender, no answer and "queer."

The Denver Post reports officials at the private liberal arts school in Colorado Springs believe they have nothing to apologize for.

College officials told the newspaper that using the term on job applications is intended to represent the college's commitment to and acknowledgment of diversity related to gender.
