ABC soap opera General Hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary

Show producers promise a celebration

Can you believe it? General Hospital premiered 50 years ago today.

The ABC soap opera has outlasted many other soaps and is still going strong.

This week, producers promise a celebration that will include past characters and favorite story lines.

The shows Nurses Ball kicks off this week and General Hospital producers tell us you can expect, "Mind-blowing performances, glamorous makeovers and storyline shockers."

They say, "Every day this week is better than the last!"

To celebrate the milestone, several of the shows actors, Genie Francis, Kin Shriner, Ron Carlivati, Frank Valentini, Kelly Monaco, Jason Thompson and Finola Hughes, rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange in New York City. 

General Hospital airs at 1 p.m. on ABC10.
