Mark St. Paddy's Day With Best Irish Imports

From Corn Beef And Cabbage To Irish Blessings

Michelle Solomon, Contributing writer

Ah, the luck of the Irish, claddagh rings, corned beef and cabbage, hearty beer, and Bono.

With St. Patrick's Day here, there's reason to cheer America's fondness for the Irish and their culture.

The holiday has been as much a part of America's history as Ireland's, if not more so. The first St. Patrick's day parade of any kind took place in New York City on March 17, 1762, with Irish soldiers serving in the English military marching, bagpipes and all, to celebrate their roots.

Just as sure as the Chicago River will be green each St. Paddy's Day, Irish patriotism has continued to flourish. Although only roughly 12 percent of Americans claim Irish ancestry, that's around 36 million Americans who claim a connection to the home of Irish whiskey, the Blarney Stone and, lest we forget, Colin Farrell.

So, raise a glass (Guinness preferably) and let's celebrate America's Favorite Irish Imports.
