POSTED: 7:15 pm PST December 3, 2008

Lil Wayne is the one to beat at the Grammys.

The rapper has eight nominations, including Album of the Year for "Tha Carter III."

Coldplay is also up for Album of the Year for "Viva La Vida." Coldplay has seven nominations. Jay-Z, Kanye West and Ne-Yo have six nominations each.

Besides Lil Wayne and Coldplay, the other contenders for Album of the Year are Ne-Yo's "Year of the Gentleman," "In Rainbows" by Radiohead and "Raising Sand" by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

The nominees for Record of the Year are "Chasing Pavements" by Adele, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis, "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. and "Please Read The Letter" by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

The Best New Artist nominees include Adele, Duffy, Jonas Brothers, Lady Antebellum and Jazmine Sullivan.

The nominations were revealed in a primetime television special this year, as the nods were announced throughout a concert hosted by rapper LL Cool J and country singer Taylor Swift.

The show included performances from past Grammy winners such as Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and the Foo Fighters.

Celine Dion was also a presenter, and performed her rendition of the Janis Ian classic "Seventeen."

In the running for the Best Movie or TV song Grammy are two songs from "Enchanted": "Ever Ever After" and "That's How You Know."

"Walk Hard," from the movie, "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," also is up for best movie or TV song. John Mayer's "Say" from "The Bucket List" is on the list, along with Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman for "Down to Earth" from "WALL-E."

The Grammys will be handed out Feb. 8 in Los Angeles.
