'Bee Movie' Makers Sued Over Use Of Slogan

Company Says It Owns Trademark

POSTED: 6:19 am PST November 7, 2007

A slogan used in the hit comedy "Bee Movie" -- "Give Bees a Chance" -- is giving a cosmetics company no peace.

The Florida-based Beeceuticals is suing Dreamworks Animation SKG and Paramount Pictures, saying it filed an application a year ago to trademark that phrase.

The new computer-animated comedy co-written, produced and starring Jerry Seinfeld, made nearly $40 million in its theatrical debut over the weekend.

Beeceuticals sells cosmetics and skin care products made with organic honey.

The lawsuit claims that the slogan has been used more than 400 times on Howard Stern's satellite radio show since March to brand all Beeceuticals' products and services.

Stern is a cousin of one of the directors of the cosmetics company.

Representatives for Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks both say they can't comment on pending litigation.

In "Bee Movie," Seinfeld's character, Barry B. Benson, sues humans, claiming that they have stolen honey from the bees for profit.
