NEW YORK -- Actress Lindsay Lohan is said to be resting comfortably after surgery to remove her appendix.

Celebrity Web site TMZ confirmed Lohan's publicist that the "Mean Girls" star had the operation Thursday.

According to TMZ, Leslie Sloane Zelnik said that Lohan wasn't feeling well Wednesday and had gone to a doctor, who performed several tests and determined she was suffering from appendicitis.

The Web site said doctors asked Lohan to return to the hospital the next day to remove her appendix as a precaution.

Lohan has also starred in "Freaky Friday" and "Herbie: Fully Loaded."

Her most recent films include "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Bobby."
