Back-To-Work Moms Start Fresh Again

Women in the working world may opt to stay at home when they have children. However, many moms realize they enjoy the challenges of a career outside the home.

After being out of work for a significant amount of time, there are many challenges and rewards women can expect when re-entering the work force.

Career and life coach, Beverly Hill, from Altamonte Springs, Fla., says that it's not always easy for a mom to go back to work.

"The moms who have the easiest time getting back to work are the ones who are super active out in their community -- with the PTA or in some kind of organization," Hill said.

Also, keep in mind, if going back to work full time seems too overwhelming, part-time work may be a better option.

How To Land A Job Again:

Hill says there are a few steps that you need to take before you jump back to work.

First, figure out exactly what you want to do. Talk to people who have the job you want and network. Then, develop a resume highlighting accomplishments while overcoming any eliminators, such as lapses between jobs. Finally, make sure that you're ready to interview. Knowing how to position yourself can be beneficial.

Hill often takes skills that women have learned while being a mom and transfers them into marketable skills that can land anyone a job. Some of the skills include:

  • Running a budget
  • Scheduling
  • Volunteer Work
  • Grocery Shopping
  • Reading to the kids
  • Multi-tasking
  • Getting involved in special events at school

"There are many activities that women who are at home are involved in," Hill said. "Positioning is everything. Creativity and presentation is everything. It's so important to understand what we have and how to present it."
