Washington's State Energy Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program, popularly known as "Cash for Appliances," is now under way.

Under the program, Washington residents who buy new, energy efficient appliances are eligible for rebates.

Washington’s program, which began March 15, offers rebates for the following appliances:

  • Refrigerators (must be 25 percent more efficient than the federal minimum standard) -- $75
  • Clothes Washers (must have an efficiency rating MEF greater than 2.46) -- $100

All state residents are eligible for the rebate program. Additional rebates may also be available from local utility companies.

The program is one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that are being set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.

Washingtonwill receive about $6.3 million of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
