LAKESIDE, Calif. -- East County is in for a big cleanup. It's the latest in a long list of efforts to help San Diego "Come Clean."For generations, Lakeside families have enjoyed Lindo Lake Park -- known as the children's paradise of East County.
But this paradise is being trashed. The ground and water are littered and polluted."It's the little things that count. (There are) wires that injure animals (and) cigarette butts that can get into the water and poison them. There are fish in the lake. It's important to keep it clean," said resident Tony San Germano.San Germano and his family are pleased that Lindo Lake is getting some help from volunteers at a big cleanup this Sunday. It's a Girl Scout cleanup, but residents of the park said they would welcome more volunteers to help clean up their home.Pat Novacek and his Fab Fords Car Club will rev up a team of volunteers and challenges other car clubs to pitch in."(It will) make it nice and neat for people that come down here," said Novacek. The big cleanup is sponsored in part by I Love A Clean San Siego."I Love A Clean San Diego focuses a lot on beaches and bays, but we need to make sure we focus more on urban areas because their trash goes downstream and to the ocean," said Pauline Martinson with I Love A Clean San Diego. The San Germanos said they plan to join in the effort and hope this cleanup fever will last long after Sunday's event. For more information about this cleanup, click on http://www.ilacsd.org/get_involved/current_projects.html.
