Indonesian Style Spicy Meatballs

Chef Larry's Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb. Ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. Ground pork
  • 1 tsp. Cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup Green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. Jalapeno pepper, finely minced
  • 2 tsp. Scallions, minced
  • 1 tsp. Ground cumin
  • 2 tsp. Ground coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp. Cilantro, minced
  • 2 tsp. Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. Brown sugar
  • 1 Egg beaten
  • Squeeze of Fresh lemon
  • 1/2 tsp. Sambal Oelek chili sauce
  • Salt to season
  • Fresh ground black pepper to season
  • Additional chili sauce for service

    Indonesian Style Spicy Meatballs Method
    Sauté onion, peppers and garlic in oil just until tender. Remove and cool. Combine cooled vegetable mixture, beef, pork, scallions, cumin, coriander, cilantro, soy sauce, brown sugar, egg and lemon. Season with salt and pepper, mix well.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Form meat mixture into balls approximately 1 oz. each. Place meatballs on a baking pan and place in oven. Cook for 10 minutes or until done.

    Remove meatballs from pan, drain and place on a warm serving platter. Serve with additional Sambal Chile.
