Teen Claims Beating By Teacher Accused Of Touching Her

A high school student in Oceanside claims she was beaten by a teacher at El Camino High School and told 10News she no longer felt safe there.

Mireya Juarez, who has since transferred from El Camino High, said she can't ever forget what happened to her, even after her bruises have faded.

"A student is supposed to feel safe at school, and I don't feel safe at school," said Juarez.

She said her teacher, who 10News chose not to identify since charges have not been filed, left bruises on her legs and head.

"He just came at me and I tried to scream, but he hit me on the head," said Juarez.

Juarez said the attack happened on campus during school hours, and 10News' Charisse Yu asked her why no one came to help her.

"How is that possible?" asked Yu.

"Because by the gym stairs they're constructing the gym, and nobody is really around there," said Juarez.

She said she was too afraid to tell anyone until she said another teacher saw her bruises and reported it to police.

Her parents, who don't speak English, said they are appalled because Juarez said the teacher had inappropriately touched her when she was a freshman.

"He just came up to me and I was sitting down and he started rubbing on my leg," said Juarez.

The teacher was not punished for those allegations after an investigation by the school district.

"They told me, 'Just be strong, it's your last year.' They wanted me to switch to another school. Why should I switch if I'm the victim and he was the one who did everything?" said Juarez.

10News learned district officials transferred Juarez to another Oceanside-area high school.

She said she has no reason to lie about what happened.

"Everything is true. Everything that he did to me is true. I even have my bruises to prove it but they just don't do nothing about it," said Juarez.

The teacher accused by Juarez is now on paid administrative leave.

The Oceanside Police Department is investigating Juarez's case.
