Hundreds of family and friends gathered in Point Loma Monday to pay their final respects to Todd Doxey.

The former Hoover High School athlete, 19, drowned while inner-tubing with his friends near his college in Eugene, Ore.

Doxey was considered a shining star at Hoover High School, an all-around athlete and was a top football recruit in California.

"He knew that he could accomplish anything and he was on his way to accomplish everything he dreamed of," said one of Doxey's friends.

But Doxey's dreams were tragically cut short when he drowned in a swimming accident in Oregon.

One person spoke of Doxey, saying, "You're my brother, my best friend ... my everything."

Many of the attendees spoke of Doxey's hard-working character and his fight to succeed.

"Todd never let any of us down. Todd was a special young man. He was a young man that touched and enriched so many lives. Todd was destined for greatness," a Hoover High School coach said.

Doxey was the first of his family to go to college.

"He studied hard to maintain his 3.5 grade-point average. He practiced hard to excel in sports and, most of all, he developed a character that brought joy to all that came to contact with him," one attendee said.

Doxey is a young man that many will never forget and is an icon especially for Hoover High School.
