Pasadena, CA -- (Sports Network) - Jahvid Best had 153 total yards and two touchdowns, as the California Golden Bears upended the UCLA Bruins, 45-26, in a Pac-10 matchup at the Rose Bowl.

Best carried 18 times for 102 yards and a touchdown, also scoring on a 51-yard pass in the victory. Shane Vereen had 17 carries for 154 yards and a touchdown, while Marvin Jones had 89 yards receiving with two touchdowns. Kevin Riley finished with 205 yards passing and three scores, as the Cal (4-2, 1-2 Pac-10) offense finally exploded after scoring a total of six points over the past two games.

UCLA (3-3, 0-3) has now lost three straight since jumping out to a 3-0 start. Johnathan Franklin rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns, while Kevin Prince threw for 311 yards and an interception.

Cal didn't waste much time getting on the scoreboard, as Shane Vereen broke loose for a 42-yard touchdown run on the game's opening possession.

Riley gave the Golden Bears a 14-0 lead at the 4:54 mark of the first quarter, when he connected with Jones for a 43-yard scoring strike.

But UCLA answered on its next drive, as Franklin found the end zone on a seven-yard run to cut the deficit to 14-7.

Riley struck again at the 9:41 mark of the second quarter, tossing a 51-yard touchdown pass to Best to put Cal back on top by 14.

Franklin responded on the first play of the ensuing drive by out-running the entire Cal defense for a 74-yard touchdown run.

Not to be outdone, Best exploded for a 93-yard touchdown run to give the Golden Bears a 28-14 lead with five minutes remaining until halftime.

UCLA kicker Kai Forbath cut the deficit to 28-17 with a 24-yard field goal at the 2:51 mark of the second quarter.

The seesaw battle continued on the next possession, as Riley hooked up with Jones for their second touchdown connection of the day, this time from 24 yards.

Forbath added a 39-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to send UCLA to the locker room trailing, 35-20.

Forbath booted a 46-yarder on the opening possession of the second half to make it a 12-point game.

Cal kicker Giorgio Tavecchio's 24-yard field goal midway through the quarter put the Golden Bears back on top by 15.

Forbath kicked a 35-yarder late in the same quarter to trim the margin to 38-26.

But Cal's Mychal Kendricks put the game out of reach with 5:05 remaining in the fourth quarter, when he stepped in front of a Prince pass and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown.

These teams were separated by less than 50 yards of total offense, but Cal's ground game proved to be the difference, as the Golden Bears racked up 289 yards on the ground and averaged seven yards per carry as a team.
