NCAA Game Summary - U-N-L-V At New Mexico

(Sports Network) - Omar Clayton threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, as the UNLV Rebels defeated the New Mexico Lobos, 34-17, in a Mountain West Conference tussle at University Stadium.

Ryan Wolfe hauled in 11 passes for UNLV (3-5,1-3 MVC), and finished the game with 118 yards and one touchdown. Channing Trotter led the ground game for the Rebels, rushing for 65 yards and one score on 13 carries.

As for the Lobos (0-7, 0-3), they were paced by Donovan Porterie who threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

The Rebels erupted for a 14-0 first quarter lead, as Clayton connected with Phillip Payne for an eight-yard score, and that was followed by a two-yard touchdown run by Trotter.

The Lobos finally got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when James Aho connected on a 44-yard field goal.

However, with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, the Rebels pushed their lead to 21-3 when Clayton hit Wolfe for a 28-yard scoring strike.

The Lobos capped off a 10-play, 80-yard drive with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Porterie to Daryl Jones to start the second half.

UNLV responded with a 33-yard field goal by Kyle Watson midway through the third frame, but the Lobos cut their deficit to 24-17 early in the final quarter when Porterie connected with Lucas Reed for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

However, the Lobos were unable to inch any closer, as the Rebels closed out the contest with a four-yard touchdown run by Mike Clausen and a 27-yard field goal by Watson.

The victory for UNLV snapped a school-record 20-game road losing streak for the Rebels in conference action.

As for the Lobos, they were without head coach Mike Locksley, who was serving the final day of his 10-day suspension for his participation in a physical altercation with an assistant. George Barlow, the team's defensive backs coach, took over the coaching duties in tonight's contest.
