POSTED: 11:26 pm PST November 7, 2009

(Sports Network) - Omar Clayton threw for a touchdown and ran for another, lifting the UNLV Rebels past the Colorado State Rams, 35-16, in a Mountain West Conference showdown at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Clayton completed 10-of-17 pass attempts for 147 yards, while adding 44 yards on seven carries. Backup quarterback Mike Clausen ran for a pair of touchdowns, as UNLV (4-6, 2-4 MWC) won for the second time in three games.

Grant Stucker and Jon Eastman both saw time under center for CSU (3-7, 0-6) and they combined for 200 yards and a pick on 20-of-37 tosses. Rashaun Greer hauled in seven balls for 77 yards, as the Rams dropped their seventh straight outing.

After a scoreless first quarter, UNLV went ahead with a 28-yard touchdown run by Clayton just 35 seconds into the second period.

CSU countered late in the second quarter, as John Mosure plunged one yard for a score.

With just 54 seconds left before the break, Jerriman Robinson caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Clayton to give the Rebels a 14-7 lead at the intermission.

UNLV added to its lead early in the third quarter when Clausen scored on a five-yard run.

The Rams tried to stay close with a 29-yard field goal by Ben DeLine late in the third quarter.

Clausen, though, punched in another five-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and the Rebels held a 28-10 lead.

Mosure then scored on a two-yard run for the Rams, but the two-point try failed.

The Rebels put the game away for good with a six-yard touchdown run by Channing Trotter with just over two minutes to go.

The Rams outgained the Rebels, 424-321, on the night and also possessed the ball for nearly 38 minutes. CSU, however, failed to convert two fourth-down chances and didn't force a single turnover.
