NCAA Game Summary - Kent State At Akron

(Sports Network) - Patrick Nicely threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Akron Zips to a 28-20 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes in a Mid-American Conference game at Infocision Stadium.

LaFrance caught eight balls for Akron (2-7, 1-4 MAC) for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

Spencer Keith was 30-for-59 through the air for 377 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Flashes (5-5, 4-2) who saw their three-game winning streak snapped.

The Golden Flashes were hampered by a first-quarter injury to running back Jacquise Terry. He carried just seven times for 18 yards. Kent State was held to just 38 net rushing yards.

Kent State took a 3-0 lead on Freddy Cortez's 37-yard field goal at the 10:30 mark of the first quarter.

Alex Allen gave Akron the lead on a one-yard run with 6:05 left in the period.

Nicely connected with LaFrance on a 59-yard touchdown pass to extend the Zips' lead to 14-3 with 14:37 left in the second quarter.

Keith responded by finding Dri Archer with a 22-yard touchdown pass that cut the Akron lead to 14-10 with 4:11 left in the half. That was followed by a 19- yard field goal by Cortez as time expired to make it a 14-13 game at halftime.

Andre Jones extended Akron's lead to 21-13 with an eight-yard run late in the third frame.

Nicely and LaFrance hooked up again with 12:05 left in the game, this time on a six-yard connection, to give Akron a 28-13 advantage.

Keith found Kendrick Pressley on a nine-yard scoring pass with 5:36 left to make it a 28-20 game.

The two teams combined for 844 yards in total offense.
