NCAA Game Summary - Gonzaga At San Diego

POSTED: 9:42 pm PST February 28, 2009

(Sports Network) - Matt Bouldin led a balanced attack with 15 points and seven rebounds, and 17th-ranked Gonzaga wrapped up another perfect record in the West Coast Conference with a 58-47 win over San Diego.

Jeremy Pargo scored 12, while Micah Downs and Josh Heytvelt each had 11 for the Bulldogs (23-5, 14-0 WCC), who logged their 21st straight West Coast Conference regular season win. The Bulldogs finished undefeated in the WCC for a third season, becoming the first team in the conference's current alignment, which has been in effect since the 1980-81 season, to go undefeated three times.

Before Saturday, Pepperdine (1982 and 1992) was the only other team other than Gonzaga (2004, 2006) to go unbeaten in the WCC twice.

"It's a tremendous accomplishment by this group of guys," said Gonzaga coach Mark Few. "I'm really, really proud of our guys."

The Bulldogs went 6-of-11 from three-point range, on the way to their sixth straight win, with a game against South Carolina Upstate on Tuesday before the WCC postseason tournament begins.

Gyno Pomare and De'Jon Jackson each had 12 points for the Toreros (15-15, 6-8), who had a two-game win streak broken.

Pomare's layup moved the hosts to a 15-10 lead midway through the opening half, but Gonzaga came back with 10 unanswered points, capped by Bouldin's shot from beyond the arc.

Pargo had the final two baskets of the half to provide Gonzaga with a 26-18 advantage, and the Bulldogs pulled away early in the second. Bouldin's jumper capped a 12-3 spurt, extending the difference to 46-31 with under 11 minutes left.

A three-pointer by Matt Dorr had San Diego within 48-41 with nearly 6 1/2 minutes left, but Pargo canned two foul shots and Austin Daye added a jumper to stem the tide.

Game Notes:

Gonzaga leads the head-to-head series with San Diego, 54-21, and that takes into account a 64-47 victory in a meeting just last month...San Diego shot 37.2 percent from the field...The Bulldogs have won 24 of the last 26 meetings.
