Albuquerque, NM -- (Sports Network) - Roman Martinez scored a game-high 18 points to lead the New Mexico Lobos to a 67-51 win over the UC Riverside Highlanders in a non-league showdown at the Pit.

Darington Hobson added 16 points and six assists for the Lobos (1-0), while A.J. Hardeman chipped in with 14 points in the win.

Sean Cunningham led the way for the Highlanders (0-1), scoring 11 points in a losing effort.

NMU took control of the game in the first half, shooting 51.6 percent from the floor to take a 39-22 lead at the break.

The Lobos shot just 12-of-31 from the floor in the second stanza, but still managed to hold on for a 16-point victory.

Three point shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as the Lobos outscored the Highlanders 24-9 from long distance.
